Some barbers drive across the country because they need another certificate.

The crew from Jurgen’s Classic Barbershop in Zoersel arrived with experience, confidence, and years behind the chair. They were already good barbers. That wasn't the question. The question was whether they were ready to step into a craft that demands a different level of patience, precision, and respect.
A one-day workshop is the perfect way to find out.

There is no time to waste during a single day. We dive straight into the essentials.

We start where every barber should start: at the beginning.
Before anyone touches a client's face, they learn to create an edge.
Using the ROMAIN 8/8 Hollow Ground straight razor, students first learn how to build sharpness. Not theory. Not promises. Real sharpness. The kind you can test immediately.
Working through the ROMAIN & Ardenne Coticule All In One Honing Kit and finishing on our Nakayama Kiita stone from Japan, every student produced an edge capable of passing the hanging hair test. A small moment perhaps, but one that never loses its magic. The moment steel becomes something more than steel.
Then came a short break.
After that, we moved into hygiene protocols using Novicide products and discussed something that is often overlooked: professional presence.
Because a traditional shave is never just about removing hair.
The Italian Shave is often described as one of the most beautiful shaving rituals in the world. It is also one of the most demanding. The razor matters. The edge matters. But so does hygiene, confidence, body positioning, awareness, communication, and precision.
Everything matters.
Each participant completed two full shaves throughout the day, and the results were impressive. Not because they were perfect, but because they understood the process.
That is where mastery begins.
The best part?
The razors went home with them.
Not placed on a shelf. Not forgotten in a drawer.
Loaded into cars and taken back to Zoersel, ready for the next chapter.
Ready for practice.
Ready for mistakes.
Ready for improvement.
Because that is how a craft survives.
Not through social media.
Not through trends.
But through people willing to invest their time in learning something difficult.
Watching a group of barbers leave inspired, motivated, and hungry to improve is always a privilege. It reminds you that true barbering is still alive. The real craft. The old knowledge. The skills that cannot be replaced by machines, shortcuts, or convenience.
And as long as there are people willing to pick up a razor and learn, it will stay that way.
