Itâs no secretâwe love champagne. Every year our team heads to the Champagne region for a tasting of what we like to call the godsâ drink. But what does any of that have to do with barbering? Maybe nothing⊠and yet, a little bit.
Like a great shave, great champagne is pure craft: patience, precision, and ritual. We love visiting growers, asking questions, and learning how the magic happens. Our go-to is Thierry Hotteâa small family house that isnât famous (and doesnât try to be) but obsesses over quality. Our kind of people.
How Champagne Happens (the super-short version)
Harvest & press â Hand-picked grapes are gently pressed to keep the juice bright and clean.
Base wine â The juice ferments into a still wine.
Blend & tirage â Wines are blended; a mix of yeast and sugar is added.
Second fermentation â In the bottle, bubbles form naturally.
Aging on lees â Bottles rest for months (often years) for texture and depth.
Riddle & disgorge â Sediment is coaxed to the neck, then removed.
Dosage & cork â A touch of sweetness (or none) sets the style; cork and cage go on.
Simple to say, hard to do perfectlyâjust like a straight-razor finish.
